Jewel of India

Love this restaurant, but I think the info about the brunch may be outdated? I asked about this when we first arrived in August and they were a bit baffled. Is the brunch back on the menu again?

Forgive me, but I would like to know how to get to this restaurant. We love authentic indian food!!!

It is next to Alain's BBB... do you know where that is?
I will try to add some small maps to help people find places, but my photoshop/ design skills are dreadful... if anyone knows a software easy to use to make very simple maps, please let me know :)

hey, take it from an indian- this place isn't all that authentic. it's good, but that's about it.
you haven't mentioned the Indian Kitchen. That too is good, though frightfully expensive. Some of its South indian dishes are authentic- the rasam, and the pepper chicken for example- but only for those who love spicy food.
Try out the DOSA here- tell them to make it crisp. It's non-spicy and light.

You forgot to mention 'south' i guess the Indian kitchen has the food cooked mainly in the south Indian way thats why you are talking about Rasam and Dosa .. but try the north Indian dishes in Jewel of India .. they are amazing even the fish fry .. the Lamb Biryani is Amazing.

I love going to Indian kitchen but when it comes to eating north Indian dishes .. maybe I'll choose Jewel of India .. the menu is changed if you have visited lately.. and its cheaper :)

i agree with you 100%.INDIAN KITCHEN has the south indian taste which not all the expats will like it.
where as JEWEL OF INDIA has the north india and bombay type of food.
anyhow pasand apna apna.

Have been there quite a few times but not a lot of customers in there , i guess they've got to change something to get more people in there.

bruce, i think you shud not care if there is customers or not.the main thing in a restaurant is the FOOD,that shud be good. and i have eaten there many times i like the food better than the INDIAN KITCHEN.and believe me recently i spoke to the boss GOPE he was very happy with his restaurant.he has also started to distribute brochures in zhuhai specially in all the hotels.

The food is awesome. Nice indian music, friendly staff, a cosy place to have dinner.

yep yep.. i been there few time 2.. food pretty cool.. i like so much .. u can try there.. and the manager is very handsome guy.. hehe... one of the reasutant was for see him... near the "zhuhai holiday resort hotel"... NO.4 No 23 bus can get there

Yeah i gotta put my 2 cents in here. I love the Jewel of India. We keep going back and back. The food was great (rogan josh, i love you) and atmosphere was pretty cool. Staff were on the ball. Good as gold !!!!!!!!

I also love Jewel of India, they have a great choice for vegetarians, the service is very good, and they always let us borrow some of their indian film DVD's...

I have been to the Indian Kitchen. Their PANEER (cottage cheese) demanded a lot of "respect" because it was probably much older than I. 10 kilograms of that "PANEER" could be used to stuff a punching bag. Rest of the items that I tried were ok. There is nothing "authentic" about it. For an Indian (or those who have been eating Indian food at different places), it isn't value for money at all.

Never tried "Jewels of India". Some of my friend told me that if this restaurant were to cut down price of its items by about 10%, increase the quantity a bit and find the right "brand ambassadors" in Zhuhai, they could possibly do very well. I also think they are too slow on their advertising and PR. Hope someone there is doing the strategic thinking.

i think you should come and try our food first.the prices are not so high as you think.and we can give you a 10% discount on request. come and try our paneer dishes you will surely like it because we make our paneer everyday so its always fresh.
regarding the brand ambassadors i dont understand what you mean about that.
and we are advertising quite a lot, may be yous missed our documentary on the zhuhai t.v and in the news papers.

Most restaurant goers usually vote with their feet, i.e. repeat business.

I've been to both, restaurants. Out of 5 visits, I've been to JOI 4 times.

Someone once told me about some place which managed to run at a profit, where they didn't charge the customers at all, but left it up to the customer to pay what they thought the food/service was worth, to them.

I guess what I'm saying Sumit, is that price is relative,when you factor in other aspects of the dining experience. I find Jewel of India to be very good value.

Our favorite Indian is very good to go visit but with the weather so bitterly cold we have been staying at home and ordering in. The take out food is as nice as the restaurant and it comes quickly by taxi to the door I would avoid the Nan because that doesn’t seem to travel well but the vegetable samosa’s are delicious. We keep ordering the same things, Ragan Josh, Chicken Tika Masala, Saag Ghost (lamb sagwalla) Mutton Biryani and a special mention for the Aloo Gobi .

Great food fair price excellent quality and sufficient quantity highly recommended.

I have been eaten here twice. The general atmosphere was lacking, but the food was fantastic. I don't have a clue as to it's authenticy, I just loved the taste. It was however, very expensive. I guess you get what you pay for. I feel a 3rd trip coming upon me.

Maybe I should have proof read the previous post !!!! I did have a fun time apparently.

Fantastic food, I have now been there 3 times in the last 2 weeks. Every time I tried something new, and every meal has gotten better. Gope and his excellent staff make expats welcome, and they accept the Expats VIP discount card - so ignore my post from February 22. Even better for me, I can walk there. I will be back, it will take some time to work my way through the extensive menu.

The VB I had earlier this week at j.o.i went down a treat. Nice one gope. The only thing better than a VB (but completely different) is a Coopers Pale Ale, which considering it's mainly an Adelaide speciality - it's amazing that it can be found in Zhuhai (Ryan's).

One must first gently roll it to stir up all that lovely brewed in the bottle sediment, wait a minute then pop the top. Best served real cold by a beautiful naked dancing girl and with a Papadam.
