Visa questions

Tags:

I thought I saw a forum on the topic of visas here before, but now I can't find it. Was there one or am I imagining things?

Here is my situation....I would like to visit friends in Zhuhai for an indefinite period of time. Here are my questions.....

1) If I enter China on a tourist visit with a 30 day stay limitation, can I just cross the border into Macau and then return to Zhuhai, thus starting a new 30 day stay?

2) At the end of 6 months can I go to Macau or Hong Kong and get a new tourist visa?

3) Is there a limit to how many times I can be issued a tourist visa or can I play this game every 6 months for as long as I want to stay in China?

4) Any better ideas?

1) nope. A common tourist

1) nope. A common tourist visum only has a single entry and exit. So if you enter China and then go to Macau you will have a problem when you try to return to China.
Just go for a 6 month F-type visum with multiple entries.
Its a bit more expensive but you can come and go as much as you want. I have one of those..

2) Yes you can but i would suggest not to wait untill your current visum is expired. Go to HK or Maqcau a few days before it expires and then get a new one. I get mine via a travel agent in Macau and i simply call her or send her a text message telling i am coming over for a visum renewal. Don't remember who told me this but with these F type visums you can keep staying in china for as long as you want ( keep on renewing it without having to pas a medical check ).

3) read 2)

4) get yourself an F-type visum....

Feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

In theory this is reasonably

In theory this is reasonably correct.

In my practical experience, I came to Zh on a tourist (L) visa, issued after completion of contract where I was on a Working (Z) Visa. I went to the zhuhai-Macau border and went to the CITS office in the Gongbei Entry Port.

They issued me with a six month multi-entry Business (F) Visa. I came and went with no problem, lost my passort had my visa reissued and then when it was time to renew I went across the border, was granted another multi-entry F-Visa. So far so good.

When this came up for renewal, I went again to the Zhuhai-Macau border area and was refused an F-Visa. I was told I had a bad visa (record?) and I was issued a single entry L-Visa. I was also told that to get anything longer or multi-entry I would have to apply in my own country or at some foreign-based consulate.

So now, I am on a spouse's (special type of L) visa wich is a six month multi-entry visa.

Advice:
1) don't lose your passport;
2) if you have the luxury to wait several days in Macau or Hong Kong, do so and apply for your visa through a visa agent;
3) at least every 12 months visit some other country and do your visa application from there;
4) if you are going to work:-
a) make sure that the organisation you work for has permission to employ foreign experts; and
b) can issue you with the appropriate Z-Visa - don't worry about the medical, it's usually a formality and your employer SHOULD pay for it, as it is a neccessary gov't designated requirement for securing your Expert's Status and Working Visa.

Opps, one more thing, visa conditions and prices and requirements vary depending on what country you come from. What works for Australians is not neccessarily the same for Americans or Nigerians, for example.

Loosing your passport is

Loosing your passport is indeed a pretty bad thing and maybe they held that against you Doc...

I have passed that Gongbei port immigration service with a passport that didn't even hold an entry or exit stamp ( and you know how picky they are there ).
I went to Macau to renew my F-type after getting a new passport ( the old one had expired ).
Around September i have togo for another renewal so lets have some fun then.

It is a good idea to keep a photocopy of your current visa as well as your passport in a safe place as it makes the process of getting a replacement easier if you have your passport stolen or lost.
