Hey Whats up with the Olympics in BeiJing anyway? Was the Olympic committee sleeping after they granted the rights to BJ and then all the other cities in China started piping up saying they could host events for BJ?

Those greedy b*stards in HK saying they could host events? These people who, a mere ten years ago had half their people running off to Vancouver to avoid behing "repatriated" after the handover? These people who look down their noses at the mainland most of the time? And now they actually are hosting the Equestrian events? Whats up with that?
Did the Olympic committee give the Olympics to BeiJing or to China as a whole?
I mean, did Los Angeles ask to Host events when the games were given to Atlanta? Did Perth hold events when the Sydney games were on?
So why does HK get to hold events that should be either in BJ or much much closer to it?

Because HK is a part of China~!

HK has been itching for years to host a world-class sporting event. And now they have it: horseys jumping over bars.

Not to a COUNTRY...

Last I looked on the map HK was not part of the CITY of BEIJING...

As I said above:
did Los Angeles ask to Host events when the games were given to Atlanta? Did Perth hold events when the Sydney games were on?

As for HK itching to hold a world class event.. Let them keep itching! They've no right to ask to hold an olympic event granted to Beijing City.

And Horses jumping over bars as an olympic event? Well just look at some of the other events... The Sniper event; Ski, shoot, ski. Speed skating, yawn, please, there are many events that most of us have no interest in.
Just hope it doesn't get worse... look at Macao, they are holding the Asian Indoor Sports Games soon and they had the B*lls to list "Electronic Sports" as an event! They even have a logo for those events of a guy holding a gaming remote! Will they expect this joke to end up in the olympics too one day!!!

Now, now guys!! Lets not get political. It is a joyous event. We should celebrate instead, the game is already very political and commercial. At least, someone like us little people should maintain a bit of that Olympic Spirit!! Just my opinion.

Anyone else planning to go to Beijing for the opening ceremony .. maybe we can have a big group going from zhuhai.

Anu - problem is getting accommodation at a reasonable price and on top of that, can we obtain tickets for the opening ceremony. I am all for it, if some one can organise something like this.

i will look around .. i hope i can find someone local in Beijing ...

Perhaps, we can stay in Tianjin. It is an hour and a half drive from Beijing. I have some friends there.
