Mandarin Language Class
Tags:
Does anyone know where I can take Mandarin language lessons? I have tried Royal School, but they don't have anything available now. I don't have time for the total immersion at GLV. Any other suggestions out there? Thanks.

At the Royal school you can
At the Royal school you can sign up for one on one classes. I was thinking of doing this next week. Perhaps, if there were a few of us we could create our own class. What is the GLV program like? Do you have information on cost, class size and times?
All I could find on the GLV
All I could find on the GLV program is that it is a full-time, total immersion class, so I did not pursue it any further. There are some GLV teachers who use this site, perhaps they can comment?
And I would be happy to help
And I would be happy to help start up a new class at Royal if there is enough interest. I would guess we would need 6-8 students at least. I am not interested in one on one, at this point.
I thought Zhuhai was known
I thought Zhuhai was known for all the universities. It is unfortunate that none have courses.
I don't know that they
I don't know that they don't. That's why I was asking :-)
I posted this question in
I posted this question in another forum months ago and got no reply. But from the people I spoke to the answer was no. It just seemed to me that these private schools you mentioned are a little too expensive considering the cost of labour and other things here. I hate the thought of being taken.
GG I agree i thought Royal
GG
I agree i thought Royal sounded expensive and the terms were unacceptable to me. As for the students (at bnu, bit, sun yat sen) i have given up as they always seem to learn far more english than i learn chinese.
T.i.e courses (like GLV's) are good but research would suggest a t.i.e is of limited value if you have no knowledge of the l2 being taught and for some it is extremely frustrating.
Oh thought i 'd better say i
Oh thought i 'd better say i think a total immersion environment is excellent for students with some experience of the l2. I always insist my students (other than beginners or younger students)speak in english even when they are discussing what to have for dinner.
Thanks Spencer. I have
Thanks Spencer. I have language partners but these are a mixed bag. As my Mandarin is very basic it often ends up being just an exercise in speaking English. English ends up only being spoken. But I have not given up yet!
Someone should start a
Someone should start a chinese corner cos most of the foreigners i meet here have pretty good chinese. I have been told that having a chinese girlfriend makes learning the language easier but that is not an option for me. Perhaps they mean more fun instead of easier?
As far as I know GLV is no
As far as I know GLV is no longer offering Chinese classes, though that may have changed during my beach time in Florida---hehe. As for Royal, I had a positive experience with one on one teaching there and found it to be a good experience overall. It seems to be pretty much the only game in town these days...
And at Royal they only need
