Macau Zhuhai Border Questions

Tags:

I've got two questions about the Macau Zhuhai border that I hope someone will either know the answer to or at least know something about.
First, I was told that there is a way you can speed through the border just using your thumbprint. Anybody do this before?
Second, I'm wondering who gets to or who qualifies to go through the diplomat lane at the border. There is no f-ing way more than 1 or 2 actual diplomats go through that thing in year. I've seen people going through, and they sure didn't look very diplomatic, if you know what I mean. Anybody got the skinny on these?

The e-channel is only for

The e-channel is only for Macau ID holders & HK residents with a China pass.

Not sure about the diplomat line, usually APEC holders can go in the same line.

For everyone else its "pick a queue"

The automated system is for

The automated system is for Macau residents, it was put into service a few months ago. Eventually, this will eliminate line-ups on the Macau-HK lines. Thus, allowing more officers tending to chinese nationals and people like us. On the second question, it is common courtesy between countries to have a lane for diplomats. Regardless the # of diplomats that cross, it is there. By the way, for your information, if you have an APEC card (foreign investors etc), you may also enjoy that privilege too. Ask some of our expat corporate CEOs about this.

An APEC card gets you a 2

An APEC card gets you a 2 year visa for about 12 countries and allows you quick access. It is designed for business people (not necessarily CEOs) who are frequent movers between countires in the Asia-pacific region. It takes some time to arrange but once you have (I dont incidently) it is well worth it.
At the ferry port you sometimes get directed to that queue once the "entitled" people are finished with. Does this not happen at the macau border? I have never been to Macau.

I read somewhere that you

I read somewhere that you also need to be a Hong Kong citizen or have the Hong Kong resident card to get APEC membership.

It depends on your

It depends on your nationality. You get it from your home coun try that is a member of APEC but I dont think America participates with the card but I may be wrong on that. Australians get their APEC card issued in Australia even if you have a China or Hong Kong address.
I

I heard that you can buy

I heard that you can buy APEC cards on Kawson Rd in Thailand.

The "Diplomatic Channel" is

The "Diplomatic Channel" is for Diplomats and APEC Card holders primarily. It also caters for elderly persons 65 and older, invalids, pregnant women, and persons escorting very young children (I think under 2 y.o.)

I'm a frequent traveler to both HK and Macau. At Gongbei, my partner and I often take our son through the Diplomatic Channel. Recently my mum has been visiting and whilst not over sixty five, she is mobility challenged and she passes through the same channel without restriction.

At Wanzai Ferry Port there is no such "Diplomatic" channel. At Jiuzhou Ferry Port, there is and as already mentioned, it does double duty as a regular gate after all designated people traffic has been processed.

At the Macau border there appears to be no 'special' channels, so it's stand in Line. HK ferry arrival appears to be a similar situation. I cannot not say what the situation is for HKIA: Zhuhai departure and HK arrival.

Hope this helps.
