Gongbei to Zhuhai City
Tags:
Hi all,
I have just moved to Macau and hence, am completely clueless on ZH - so appreciate your patience and advice.
1. How far is it to ZH city once you cross the GB border from Macau? What is the best way of getting there? Am assuming cab - so approx fare?
2. Where are the places to go shopping (this questions is from my fiance!). Am sure there are different districts for clothes, kitchenware etc. We bought furniture from Chuan Shan Lu - but I understand this is considered 'in the burbs' by AH city dwellers.
3. What are some fun things to do in ZH? Recommendations on up-market massages places (no hanky-panky) etc
4. Does anyone use a driver service that they can recommend?
Thanks all and I look forward to having some fun weekends in ZH!
Regards,
Tony

Once you cross the border,
Once you cross the border, you're in Zhuhai. You come out in Gongbei district, which is one of the main shopping areas or catch bus 2 to Jida which is the other. QianShan is the place for kitchen wares and furniture and such. Sorry no idea about questions 3 and 4. cheers.

1. Once you cross the border, you are already in Zhuhai city. The area you will cross into is called Gongbei. The best way (and only way) to get there is to walk.
2. There is a fair bit of shopping in Gongbei. Depends what you're looking for. Most foreigners like to buy cheap counterfeit crap from the underground market (地下商场, di xia shang chang). It's a huge underground shopping complex specializing mostly in fake Rolex, fake handbags, etc. It is the first thing you will see when you enter Zhuhai.
3. For fun, you can check out Bar Street, which is also in Gongbei (10-15rmb taxi from the border). There are massage places all over Gongbei, I'm sure there must be something in the A-Z reviews.
4. You don't need a driver. Just use the taxi's. They are cheap and plentiful (unlike Macau). But make sure you use the real taxis. When you cross the border, you will likely be harassed by a bunch of "private" (illegal) taxi drivers waving keys in your face saying "TAXI, TAXI, TAXI". Just ignore them, as they will charge you 10x the normal price to go anywhere.

1. Indeed you are in Zhuhai the moment you cross the border.
2. Shopping i would say underground market and Lian Hua Road.
3. Bar street. And you can go car racing uhh or you can go climb a mountain and sit the cable cars if you like. There really isn't much fun things you can do here.
4. Taxis work. Here's a driver service i use: 13543873401.
