Think the income taxes for

Think the income taxes for foreigners are the same throughout all of China. You get the 4800 tax deduction. And then the rest of it will be taxed using the 5%,10%,15%....45% tax brackets.

For China citizens, I believe the deductions can vary from city to city. <-- forgot where I read/heard that from

I have been told recently

I have been told recently that the tax deduction for expats has been raised to 5200. I don't know for sure if this is fact or just wishful thinking; but it might be worth checking out on some official website by someone who can read Chinese.

If one is paid by a Chinese company say RMB 6000 per week or per month - how does it all work.

Check out this website for details and a complete explanation of the Chinese IIT. It is a bit dated (2005), but I think all remains accurate except for the possibility of a higher initial deduction.

@nuovavita, I think taxes are paid monthly, not weekly.

@roy, yes it is a straight, off the top deduction (monthly) from your salary. If you get paid 6000rmb/month you only pay tax on 6000 less whatever the current deduction is (4000, or 4800, or 5200)

@ddblough thanks for the

@ddblough

thanks for the info. i read some articles from a chinese finance magazine earlier today saying that the tax can be weekly based. but it doesn't give a more detailed way of calculation since it is only a brief introduction. anyway, so many thanks to all and your words! :)
