What, if any, LGBT (queer) community exists in Zhuhai?

Tags:

I am considering a move to Zhuhai at the end of the summer. I understand that some, or much, of my liberal lifestyle may be compromised with this move. What I am asking here, folks, is:

-What are the views of locals and expats towards "queer people" (umbrella term for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transexuals)?

Thanks a bunch!

All walks of life are fine

All walks of life are fine here mate!

Take Croydon for instance!

Camp as a row of tents.

可怕的不是进步速度慢,而是止步不前
Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still

In the words of some old

In the words of some old gaffer,

"there's naught as queer as folk..."

It's not the views of the

It's not the views of the expats so much at all as the small town feel of Zhuhai and all that entails. Frankly speaking, it will be challenging--though possible--to enjoy your lifestyle, but not without a great deal of obstacles.

Actually reminds me of Little Britain...natch.

There are gay and lesbian

There are gay and lesbian support groups here such as the rainbow club. A couple of places here are known for the high percentage of lesbians living there. The attitude to homosexuality has changed with the "condition" no longer being classed as a mental illness from 2003/4 by the powers that be.

Wow, no one picked up this

Wow, no one picked up this post, very interesting, why is homosexuality such a thorny issue?

It's funny...every.single.person. on U.S. tv these days seems to fall into the above categories. Fine by me, but it's just a bit headache-inducing to watch Carson Kressley run around all night and day. If you have no idea who that is, then you're better off for it.

Off to the Blue Oyster now. Tah!

Ahoy, hoy canrun did you get

Ahoy, hoy canrun

Perhaps i will finally meet you someday and we can cause a kerfuff...um scene.

clever girl, a visit to spanwire.com should fix any problems you have...lol. I did hear once that there is a gay bar somewhere here in Zhuhai, I have not been able to find it as it is not located in the "populated" bar streets. Maybe someone here would know more? Sorry I could not offer you more infomation! I have had many expat "gay" friends here in China and they seem to find no problem in enjoying thier lifestyle.. so I guess you should have no fear!!!

I recall walking into a bar

I recall walking into a bar in Gongbei once and felt very uncomfortable there, is it? of isn't it? I have no idea.

Directions:
With Yingdo Jiudian on your left, procede down the left hand side of the street towards Lianhua Lu.

Cross Lianhua Lu and continue in the Lover's Road direction. Before you get to Shuiwan Lu, there is a bar at the end of the buildings opposite of China Telecom, go down stairs past all the wall pictures of scantilly clad muscular men into this dark, seemy pit called "Dicky Bar" (I think.)

Abandon all hope ye who enter there! Good luck.

Thank you for your dodgy directions, my friend. I'll have you to thank if I end up walking home with a lady sporting a red dress and duct tape in her panties.

If you were to go into any

If you were to go into any bar with the name "Dicky Bar" and then proceed down stairs past pictures of men, then whatever your fate after that is not something I'd be accountable for. :-p

@admin,

I thought we didn't allow advertizing in these forums? This looks suspiciously like spam to me!

prosti... Well, perhaps

prosti...

Well, perhaps that's too strong...

from the website:

"Zhuhai Gay Massage Club
Best gay massage service from our handsome boys!"

Back home we'd refer to such services as 'Call Girl' or 'Escort' services. This being Zhuhai, I guess you just have to choose your own euphemism. ;-)

Homosexual is OK. Everyone

Homosexual is OK. Everyone has his own taste, and they don't need to change themselves just because most people dislike it. Exactly, there are several pairs of lesbians in our school. And some of the girls or a few boys enjoy something relating to gays. So for us, it is very normal.
