How does that work? I been reading through IRS publication and gotten more confused? If you work in Hong Kong and the tax is around 20%, do Uncle sam tag on extra 20% for himself?

I suggest you download a free copy of TaxAct and go through the questionaire. It should have the most updated info as I believe certain rules have changed for this year (like every year).
It is a function of how long you've been out of the US and also how much your income is...
FYI, if you are a foreigner working in HK, your first year is tax free

They give you some credit
They give you some credit for taxes paid overseas normally. Just gotta fill in the right forms.

Me, I download a tax program every year and do it all on the computer then print it out and send it in by JUNE 15th as I always take advantage of the automatic 2 month extension for those of us living overseas are supposed to get. The programs prompt you thru all those correct forms to avoid doudle taxation etc. anyway.
Just doesn't feel fair. None of the expats from other countries have to do this shit every year. Only us US Citizens.
