Does anyone know if taxi drivers are willing to drive someone from Zhuhai Ferry Port to Jilin University (near Zhuhai Airport)? If so, how much is the fare?

that is about 50km from ZH
that is about 50km from ZH and way out in the boonies with little chance for the driver to get a return fare. I recently paid 200 rmb for a round trip fare, so use that as your bench mark. You need to somehow tell the driver it is not a metered fare.

Thanks Goldengate88.
I am only now appreciating what a convenient location Wanzaisha was to live in....

hey, the cheapest would be take a cab in front of Zhongzhu da sha where the airport waiting hall is, and over there many shuttle cabs between the airport and Gongbei, yellow ones to the airport and green ones back, if u take alone, the price would be 80 but usually u may have other passengers to share the ride with 2ormb each
I have never had a zhuhai
I have never had a zhuhai cab share the cost between passengers, several times now they have charges everyone the same 80 rmb price. and have waited, sometimes half an hour, to fill the cab before leaving the airport. Mafia-Gangster-Organized criminals that they are. I circumvent this now by making sure I have a private driver. It costs me 100quai,but the calmness and lack of aggravation is worth the extra 20 rmb
Alternatively, if I land in the daytime, I take the shuttle bus. 15 rmb (I think? it's been a while) no sweat.

You are both paying too
You are both paying too much. To get from Sanzao (the area where the airport is) to Jida, I usually pay 60rmb. From Jida to Sanzao 80rmb. Not sure why it's more one way than the other but it is. Even if you use the meter in a regular taxi it will still be less than 110rmb to get from jida/gongbei to the airport or visa versa (even less in a yellow taxi).
I find it hard to believe that a taxi driver would refuse to allow people to share a taxi and split the fare. I've never had that problem, but if I did I would just demand that the driver use his meter and then have the last person who gets dropped off pay the fare. If he refuses, threaten to report him.
I have had a few cases of taxi drivers trying to pick up another passenger after I was already in the taxi. Usually this happens very late at night. When they try this, I tell them that any fare from the other passenger will go directly to me at which point they suddenly lose interest in picking up another passenger.
When taxi drivers try to rip me off, I just pay them what I think is fair. For example, if they pick up another passenger, I will pay half. If they take a "scenic" route somewhere, I will pay what it would have been if they had driven directly. At this point, they usually start screaming and swearing. I then explain why I paid what I did, tell them to call the police if they have a problem with it, then walk away. They never do call the police or follow me.
Finally, to answer the original question posted... Yes, you can take a taxi from Jiuzhou port to Jilin University. The fare should be around 70-80rmb. Actually, you can usually take a taxi from anywhere to anywhere, it's just a matter of price. You can even take a taxi to Guangzhou or Shenzhen if you want.
I have to agree with
I have to agree with 'entoprolific', every point is spot on. The couple of times I have taken a taxi to or from the airport it's been about RMB100. If I have time and want to save money I catch the bus from behind the Bei huo shops in Jida for RMB20.
It does help to have some experience - but if you are new to Zhuhai, the safest thing to do with Taxi's is to insist on the meter being used. If I have a trip to anywhere and the meter isn't used - I just pay RBM10 and get out. If they argue - point to the fare placard and they back off. Not a damn thing they can do .... cos they were probably planning to charge much more than the meter. As your command of Chinese increases (ie you can tell them where to go in Chinese), the rate of taxi ripoff (attempts) decreases.
I find negotiating for the fare is rarely cheaper unless you really know what you are doing.
When arriving at the airport there are normally buses available at a very cheap fare, and dozens of taxi's trying to get you to use them. They will insist that the bus is no good for you and try to help you with your bags to the taxi (a first). And they won't take no for an answer. The only thing more annoying are the Indian hawkers on the streets of Kowloon.
Entroprolific, is that
Entroprolific, is that 70-80rmb fare from Jiuzhou Port to Jilin University with a taxi using the meter? I will return from England next week and will have too much luggage to contend with the hassle of going to Gongbei to take a yellow taxi. I just want to take the easiest way home!
If using the meter, it
If using the meter, it should be around 100. If you've never done the route before, it's always best to use the meter the first time so you a good basis for future negotiations. If you know what the price should be, you can usually negotiate 10 - 20 % less for a long ride.
Just make sure the drivers takes the shortest available route.
I made the journey the other
I made the journey the other night using the meter and it cost me 140 yuan. I think it would have cost only 120 yuan if he had not driven into Wanzai. Otherwise the route he took was as I had expected. Next time I will negotiate the price.
Thanks to everyone who gave helpful advice!
