National day holiday week in 2008

Hello,

I want to ask how will National day affect things in China in September/October. Will locals have vacations starting from 27th September 2008 already?

I heard that everything is very crowded and hotels are very expensive during these "golden week" holidays and that's why I would like to avoid travelling in China during those times.
