I would like to send some swarovski jewellery (costome jewellery) to my relatives in Zhu Hai by post from the States, do you think they will receive it and do they have to pay customs? Thanks

if you are at LA or some big Chinese community, send by those China shipping company. they charge $7/lb and $3 additional pounds. will be shipped together with DHL's flights.

I think it is pot luck. Dont send by mail. Last year I sent 5 parcels..3 arrived, which is a bit upsetting when they are birthday gifts. Unfortunately you cant lie on the customs declaration (so employees on the way dont know whats inside), because the post office checks everything then packs it in a box. I think JJs idea is best.

Can you suggest some shipping co. names,better still, with telephone nos. as I do not mind paying the extra cost for shipping to them as the rate is so good.

Yeah, I also sent a gift to a friend in china last year through the postal service and it never did get to her. I think either DHL or Fedex would be your best option. A little more expensive but delivery of goods is guaranteed.
I think Customs taxes items depending on their value. I know in Canada certain items are tax exempt but whoever you choose as your carrier should be able to give you this information.
