Does VOIP or internet phone work from China? Is there any of you using it?
I mean, sure its probably cheap to make calls from China to anywhere but the thing is I wanna carry my internet phone with me so that I can carry my phone number with me as well. I suppose I could have the calls from that number forwarded to my phone in China but I am just wondering if internet phone does work from China or is it kaput.

I use Skype quite a bit especially to Australia. It works really well if you are calling a computer or a phone that is on the Optus network. Telstra are manipulating the packets in Skype to reduce its performance. This is just about to get blown up in the papers I believe.
Hi mek We pay via online
Hi mek
We pay via online banking through our bank account back home in Canada. Vonage has a pretty good online accounts systems, allows you to have really good control over seeing all call details, voicemails, billing info, and many other features. You can pick any phone number and area code you want, where it makes most sense for you too.
Hope that helps,
Kai

Skype works for me,
Skype works for me, especially to other PC's with fast connections. Nice tip < chinamonty >, I will start checking on the quality of calls to see if what you suggests fits the pattern. It wouldn't surprise me, although Optus have to buy lines from Telstra anyway.
What programs like Skype really show us is what a rip off most Telco's are engaging in.
