Is there anyone interested in forming an English-speaking photography club?

I would be very interested

I would be very interested in joining your English speaking photography club. I am available on most weekends although I live in Macau and can easily come across.

Are we talking film,

Are we talking film, digital, or either one? If it is digital, then I am interested.

That is something that

That is something that should be open for discussion.

This idea is by no means already set in stone. I feel that most of the people who might be interested in such a club would most likely be digital users, hence this could most likely be the main focus.

Having said that, I don't that such a club should be exclusively digital. What do you think?

Hey Doc. I think both is

Hey Doc.

I think both is fine. I just want to be able to learn some tricks of the trade for digital photography, not to mention having an excuse to get out of the house once in awhile.

Don't we all? I love film,

Don't we all? I love film, but digital is so much more immediate and after the initial expense, much easier on the pocket especially considering the cost of mistakes.

:-D

count me in....

count me in....

Me too, I am in the market

Me too, I am in the market for either a new Digital SLR or one of the new long zoom digitals. Where is the best place to buy in Zhuhai (other than Macao or HK).

I not sure about Zhu Hai but

I not sure about Zhu Hai but there is a very reliable shop in Macao called Foto Nice. The prices are similar to HKG. If you go to dpreview which is a website in the States, they will also match the prices on any lens as long as they have it in stock.

Hi Roy. If you search back

Hi Roy.

If you search back through the old Forums you should find a thread about "is there a decent camera shop in Zhuhai". I think the result was that there really isn't one and that your best bet was Macao or HK, but I could be wrong.

Roy, here's the link to that

Roy, here's the link to that old Forum.....

http://zhuhai.expat9.com/forum/photographic-shop-zhuhai

The easiest way is to

The easiest way is to research on the web, print out info on what you want, prowl around the hypermarts, Gome, and the computer stores for local prices. Then visit the camera stores and see if they can obtain, match price or do better.

Hypermarts - Vangard, Jusco, MOI, Hita Plaza, Taifang, etc. check out the A-Z on Shopping and Department Stores.

Gome is located in Gonbei down the road from Yingdo Hotel, There are also several other and similar stores around greater Zhuhai.

Camera Stores, Again Check out the A - Z. But in summary, there's one in Xiangzhou, halfway between Jusco and Dynamics Pizza, on the Dynaimcs side of the road on Yingbin Lu and up a small laneway. Theres a shop in the complex just before Vanguard in Gongbei that deals with some camera equipment. There's a camera repair store in Shui Wan Lu (see A- Z). there were two in the Hita Plaze complex, but I've not seen them recently.

Computer Markets - Wanzaisha has a Nikon store as well as various digital cameras on sale around the place. I Gongbei, up the road from McDonald's towards Taifang Electrical, is a small computer market, dominated on the ground floor by mobile phones. on the ground floor is also a digital camera store. Aparently there is a computer market near the Hita Plaza complex, but I've never been thea and can't say exactly where it's locates, check some of the past postings on this site.

Back to English Photo Club.

Back to English Photo Club. I think it is a great idea and we should formally start this organization. Doc since you started this thread you should initiate the process. I am in.

Thanks for all the excellent

Thanks for all the excellent information. Doc has given me something do do when out and about, checking them all out. Re Macao, I visited most and bought a Ixus 860 from Koio Cyberland - not sure what street it was(they had 3 branches and the receipt doesn't identify which), I think it was 56 Rua dos Mercadores. Head and shoulders the best of the camera shops I have found in Macao. I found most of the Macao shops were not interested in serving you ... at one store I waited for 20 minutes. I don't normally wait 20 minutes for anyone, but they (seemingly) had the last remaining camera in stock of what I wanted, but come time to part with cash they wouldn't take RMB. Went elsewhere and bought the Ixus, and I am glad I did, it's great.

Ok. Lets see where we can go

Ok. Lets see where we can go with this.

First, JTS, DDBLOUGH, ROY & GOLDENGATE88, could you folk pleas PM me with your contact details?

Next, I'll map out a brief on the Club and then distribute it in an open forum for public feedback.

From that we can confirm details like club name, meeting space, office bearers and get this club up and running.

Hi all, a while back I

Hi all,

a while back I promised to provide some details for a proposed photography club. Here's the update.

Last Friday, several of us got together to discuss the formation of some kind of photography/camera oriented group which used English as the main form of communication. As a result, it was decided that there was sufficient public interest to establish such a group and to organize regular activities to promote cultural exchange through the medium of photography.

One of the key outcomes for such a group was to allow models, both experienced and new, to network with photographers, and makeup artists, based on a mutual exchange of services, and that this should be coordinated in a safe, mutually supportive, and respectful manner.

It was pointed out that such a group needs a core of interested persons to oversee and coordinate activities and to facilitate the networking of photographers, models, makeup artists, photographers' assistants, etc., to keep things in focus, and on track, with the broader goals of such a group.

As such, the following people indicated that they were willing to take on such a responsibility on behalf of such a group. These people are:

Doug Gillespie (The leading face and voice of the group, Canadian)
Doc Tempest (Public Relations an assistant to Doug, Australian)
Reiko Lin (coordinate group communications and translations, Chinese)
Hellen Hou (monitor expenditure and budgeting limits, Chinese)

Now, this evening, we will follow up our first get together with some further discussion about:

a) What should we call ourselves?
b) Are we a club, association, organization, or network?
(each of these have their own pros and cons)
c) What is our purpose, why are we forming?
d) What is our mandate, vision and mission?
e) What are our expectations of members?
f) What are the expectations of the members for the group?
g) Should we have a website?
h) What should it be called?
i) What features should it contain?
j) Where should we meet and how regularly?
k) Suggestions for organized events and activities?

Specifically we will, follow up on some of the outcomes from the last gathering, and this time 'round, focus on the naming of the group and outlining options for the next photo event.

It would be good to get your feedback and input to this process. If you would like to be more actively involved, please feel free to contact me.

My number is 13676098458

Hi all Can I ask to be a

Hi all

Can I ask to be a member, must he/she be an experienced photographer? Or anybody who is interested in can join? Also, is it the same for the models?

Thanks,

Hi Nuovavita, thanks for

Hi Nuovavita,

thanks for your question. To be specific, there is no membership, that is you do not have to pay any money to belong to this group.

As such, then you do not have to be an experienced photographer, or model, to take part in any activity we organize. We welcome everyone, and anyone with an interest in photography and image creation.

So if you want to come along and take some snaps, assist others to do so, pose in front of a lens, or help make some one look good via makeup, set design, or clothing then you are more than welcome to participate.

Please feel free to PM me with your contact details and I will make sure that you are added to our contact list of people interested in having a great time taking and making photographs.

Doc...is there a botanical

Doc...is there a botanical garden in Zhuhai where one can take MACRO pictures of flowers?

Near the Meixi royal Stone

Near the Meixi royal Stone Archway, is the "Marvelous Agricultural Science Gardens." It's a research center that showcases some of the work being done in Agriculture. It's fantastic! I love the place. I went there with the Huafa Expat tours and photographed some giant pumpkins.

It's probably the closest thing to a botanical garden here in Zhuhai. The added bonus is that many plants are housed, so movement caused by wind is greatly reduced and sometimes even eliminated, which is a plus for macro work. To get there, catch the 99 tour bus.

Believe me, you can do much

Believe me, you can do much better on price for digital cameras and other imported electronics in HK that you can in Macau or ZH. In May, I bought my Panasonic Lumix FZ50 for about US$50 less than the lowest discount stateside price quoted on DPreview. In ZH, you're going to pay a hefty import tax on any genuine imported Japanese electronics.

As far as the photo club, I'd be very interested. Please email me when you have more details.

It's a great idea about this

It's a great idea about this photo group. Did you start already? I am in. Please send me some more details about time and place and some current activities.

Latest Update recently, a

Latest Update

recently, a few people have asked me what's happening with the photography club? So here's the goss!

1. At this stage approx. 32 people have expressed an interest in the events and activities of the group.
Of these there are about 12 photographers, 7 observers, 10 models, and 2 makeup artists.

2. Two meetings have been held so far and the club has formed under the name of LENZ - Light Enthusiast's Network Zhuhai.

3. A number of activities were held prior to the formation of the club, and since it's formation a few photographers and models have got together, by their own arrangement to pursue further activities.

4. There has been a lot of behind-the-scenes activity to develop club assets such as logos, web sites, text copy, etc. and work is currently in development towards the establishment of a photography forum here on E9.

5. The next formal club activity is still to be set. Present focus seems to be linked to Spring Festival Activities in and around Zhuhai.

If you have suggestions for activities, or you would like to connect with other members of the club, please let me know.
