A Panoramic Vista

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with the following phrase?
"...a panoramic vista."
Just sometimes, every now and again, I suffer a serious, "bee in your bonnet," episode, I tell you what. Today is one of those days.
Now, what does this have to do with photography? I see the same mistaken usage of this phrase frequently, all over the web, and in print. It is even used in the title for a recent(ish) Mars probe photo of a 360 deg. view of the Martian landscape!!!
OK, so as to not take the current usage out of context, here's the sentence it comes from: (published in a Camera House magazine)
"The long shadow falling across the river tells more of a story about the view than a boring panoramic vista."
So, does anyone else see a problem with this phrase?

I don't know what school you
I don't know what school you went to, but I had a teacher who took me to task over misusing the occasional word, 'vista' was one of them.
When you go walking in the wilds, or even in a park around town, it is the unexpected and often surprising narrow-gap views which gives us cause to pause and go "look at that!" Snap! Click! Wonderful Photo! That's a vista.
When we climb to the top of some hill or the top of a building, and at the moment when the whole horizon comes into view, we also stop momentarily and say, "wow!" turning our heads to take it all in. Snap! Click, click, click (to get it all in)! Stitch Together or Frame Side by side for a series of wonderful photos. That's a panorama.
A Panoramic Vista is neither one, nor the other.
