Ah, yes, Gurrang-Gurrang. I'm new here on Expat9, and have been navigating the forums for a shared music thread. Couldn't find anything until I ran across yours today. Thanks for starting the thread and the extended invite. I'll be checking in daily. Oh yeah, and thanks for your response on my YouTube post. I'll do my best not to crowd the thread with my favorites; I'm always looking for new stuff as well.

Thanks Earthling!!!
Hey Gurrang-Gurrang, thanks
Hey Gurrang-Gurrang, thanks for the Ritchie Havens; love just about everything from Woodstock and Monteray Pop Fest. I should have mentioned before that I posted the Santana vid in response to orrin's vid of TOP. Didn't want to post and RHCP vids that are easily found. I saw Stomp 10 years ago in Seattle, and all I can tell you if you have the chance is, "GO SEE THEM!" They played several shows in Hong Kong 2 years ago, but by the time I found out, all shows were sold out. Here are a few more; getting into other kids of music. Sorry, some are only music, no videos.

The above is another band from my home town.. POWDERFINGER, I used to live nextdoor to these guys and I drove them to a smashing pumpkins concert one night wrecked out of our trees.. one to remember.. they then invited me to an album launch the following week and the rest as they say history, they are now one of the biggest bands in Aussie history... not sure if you've heard of them in the states or not! I like them..
this is obscure but not aussie, tho we often lay claim to them hahahaha a NZ band Split Enz. They went on to form Crowded House after they disbanded. love these guys!

Hey thanks. I really liked
Hey thanks. I really liked the rock songs, esp. "Whatever makes you happy". We do get Split Enz and Crowded House in The States. You hit the nail on the head with Yothu Yindi; I saw them in Tampa, Florida 17 years ago at Tropical Heat Wave, and as you know, there is no way to put the experience into words. I bought 2 of their CDs directly from them, chatted with them a bit. I do believe I left those in The P.I. along with my Bob Dylan and Tom Waits collections. Anyway, anything to the likes of Yothu Yindi would be very, very much appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

Freddie is the most famous of all musicians to come out of The Philppines. I was blessed to meet him at Ka Freddies (his bar). He asked if anyone could write a song, so yeah, I wrote down some "lyrics" (pretty shabby), but he improvised it on the spot and brought it to life; even recorded it and gave me a copy.
Aussie folk music? Can you hook me up with some bands.
Ah, we gotta get more input from some different folks here. You and I are dominating the thread. Come on folks, how about it?

Hey thanks Chopper, glad you enjoyed. And you know what kind of juke jammin, freewheelin' strummin' and pickin' I like. You definitely know my tastes. Right on, loved the overhand fingerslide action in the beginning; no bottlenecks or pipe cuttings necessary here. Yes sir, a good dose af daily folkabilly for me.
Hey, I just saw something today. Is "chopping" basically beating the sticks while simultaneously banging on the heads and symbols? Thanks.
Here's one for you, a bit common, but it's an exceptionally "raw" clip.

Okay Chopper, go back to the vid I posted for you and scroll down ad check out the posts. Also, in the vid, the kid was banging his sticks. I assumed that's what the post was talking about. Maybe it's an Americanism. I just naturally associated it with your name. Cheers.
Sorry, the post mentions "chops" (noun)on the second page not "chopping" (verb). My mistake.

I'm a bit uneducated about "Waltzing Matilda"; first heard Tom Waits' version when I was a younger lad (20 odd years ago), but have since heard various lyrical changes. I certainly don't know the original, but have liked every version I've heard.

Got it Chopper, thanks. Here's one for you. I play ALL kinds of music all day, and though Ama likes some of it, I could turn her hair grey with quite a bit of it. Anyway, she heard this playing, and asked, "What's this?". I said, "Ron sent it to me." She said, "Oh can he play this one?"
Haha, I'll leave it at that. Either way, it will be played quite often here, thanks bro.
what a wonderful story
what a wonderful story randall. great. ive done that song for many years , but i have to choose the environment carefully if im gonna perform it where it can seem a little maudlin in the wrong place at the wrong time. whilst on you tube maybe let ama hear the version of 'song of the siren' by the 'cocteau twins' a.k.a. 'this mortal coil'. eerily beautiful as well.

[ thats formals - prom nights for non south aussies] i was at chisels 'last stand' concert at the apollo theatre in adelaide before it was knocked down.we got caught smuggling a heap of whisky into the gig and the cops stood with us while we drank it before the gig instead of confiscating it! great guys, and we were well prepped for that legendary performance.i used to see chisel at the marryatville pub before they went 'mega'. awesome. used to see midnight oil and hunters and collectors [and nick caves birthday party] at the tivoli in south oz as well. ive got a vid here of seminal oz rockers radio birdman ,live at the forementioned marratville pub in 1977. this is a famous underground concert, and its amazing to find this rare footage on youtube.this is my old stompin ground.hope you like it
