go to chungking mansion in nathan road kowloon. you will get a room for abt 150/170 hkd. and the rooms are good.

the price is for a single room, double room should be about 200/250hkd. david chungking mansion is just next to the holiday inn golden mile in nathan road. its just about 7/8 mins walking distance from the china ferry kowloon,and just outside the tsim sha tsui metro station.

I have heard that Chungking Mansion is a bit of a fire hazard. Is there any truth in this? I would like to spend a few days in Hong Kong but don't want to spend a fortune on expensive hotels.

fire hazard and crime. But I learn all those form films only. I personally only been there for food and stayed 3 hours only.

Another recommendation is the YauMaTie YWCA hotel. It wont be as cheap as 150/170 but it is reasonable priced.

come on there is nothing like fire hazard or crime in chungking mansion. i have stayed 3 times there in the past 3 months and nothing such happened.plus you get to eat good food downstairs which is very cheap.

it depends on the atmosphere. I too have stayed at Chungking Masnion, great little room, single bed, tv and shower/toilet. Small. Cheap. Access via elevators part way into the building.

There are money changers in the entryway, and touts for clothing, bags etc. It's an interesting location. Many traveler reports prefer Mongkok Mansion just a little further down the road.

Our assistant stays at a small clean hotel, similar setup, bigger bed, clean environment which is a stone's throw from Times Square. - More on that soon to come.

OK, it cost 300 per night but had a very, very friendly feel about it from the ground floor up.

Someone mentioned afraid of crime in Hong Kong, man Zhuhai is the Chinese capital of theft .I have experienced more cases of theft in Zhuhai than anywhere else I have ever been to. Holiday time or just weekends Gongbei is the definitely the capital of theft.
Nathan Road, Hong Kong is safe in Hong Kong. The police in Hong Kong display more professionalism than anywhere in China.
For those of you who have spent most of your time in China in Zhuhai or Shanghai I suggest you have a look at the other areas of China where about 800 million farmers still live. It's some of those young ones who come to places like Zhuhai hoping to make their fortune or secure good jobs but end up been disapponted and sometimes hungry or have their money stolen and end up begging for a feed. Of course there are the professional criminals and con artists who thrive on foreigners and unsuspecting rural migrants but some are very geniune and as most of us have noticed by now Chinese people tend to ignore their own that need help.
