Citizenship Courses

I'm not supposed to comment, I know, seeing as how I'm on the beach in Florida and all---still. However, that post is just too rich to pass up. I'm gonna have to drink double Coronas, contemplate the silliness of the fact that what you say is darn well likely, then chalk it down as reason 1,469 to get the hell out of the middle kingdom. Cheers!

How did you find out about this in the first place? What's your background, that you need to do such a course? This is the first time in seven years that I have heard of such a thing.

I didnt need to do anything when I just got my Z visa renewal in July. It was simple and quick with the usual 1 week waiting period. No need to take any course!

Well the is fact, that for some people a citizenship course is required. I am researching this for someone else and like you i have never heard of it or had to do it. My friend is hoping to avoid this course which of course is NOT FREE.

As for my background it is kind of white with a large poster of an eagle in flight.

Hey all, news update on this, apparently, if your applying for a year long stay visa, then the host company needs to fill out forms for themselves and on your behalf, attached to these forms is a sheet of paper for enrolment to classes, which they have an OPTION of sending you or not sending you to learn the do's and don't whilst here. so call off the cavalry, theres no need to panic! stay happy, peace.

oops, forgot, this probably is for companies taking on foreign employees for the first time. So the relevant officials need to do the relevant checks.

From what you say Klash, it sounds similar to or like a modification of a necessary piece of hoop jumping that I had to go through several years ago.

When I first came here, it was a requirement that FE's (foreign experts: I do use the term lightly) had to undergo an initial interview with the PSB where they outlined the prevailing Chinese regulations and guidelines impacting on the FE's stay here in China. At this interview they also, usually but not always, gave the FE an English copy of the regulations.

Towards the end of the FE's contract (or annually) there was supposed to be a follow up interview, i.e. there was supposed to be an annual interview with the FE and employing body to make sure everything was hunky dory. For me, that hasn't happened for a long time now, so I was surprised, more than anything else, when the "Culture Classes" were mentioned.

The reason for my inquiry was to find out more, as I was contemplating doing the course myself - nothing like a genuine refresher to keep the head in the "right place" :-p
