Click on the Newsletter button on the top menu, enter your email and click on "Subscribe"... that's all :)
You will then receive one weekly email with all the latest updates from the site.
How do I unsubscribe?
At the bottom of each E-newsletter, there is a "unsubscribe" button. You may also go back to the Newsletter page, enter your email again and click on "unsubscribe".
Do I need to be a member to subscribe to the Newsletter?
No. Everybody can subscribe to the Newsletter. And subscribing to the newsletter will not give you a member status. For this, you need to register :)
Members versus Guests
First of all, you don't need to register to read the content of the website.
You only need to register if you want to post content on the site or comment existing posts.
Our members can:
- post Classifieds ads ( Jobs, accommodation, Buy, Sell etc...)
- ask ( and answer) questions and discuss in the Forums.
- write reviews in the A to Z ( about your favorite restaurant, bar etc...)
Is it free of charge?
Yes, completely free!
Is it difficult?
It will take you 2 minutes :)
Click on "Login / Register" ( top right menu).
Then click on "create new account"
Then all you need is a valid email address and a username ( the name that will appear when you write stuff). You can choose whatever you want for your username. Some people like to use their real name, others, wishing to remain anonymous, choose something else, like expat888 !!
We will then send you an email with your password so you can login and start posting content ... it is that simple!
Will my email address remain private?
Sure! Your email will not be shown online unless if you write it in one of your posts.
Free, easy, confidential... why not register now?
- If your A to Z review is published, you get: 50 points
- When you invite someone and that person registers on our site, you get: 20 points
- When you post a new Blog entry, Event or Image (in Gallery), you get: 10 points
- When you write a new Comment, you get: 2 points
- When you vote, you get: 2 points
And when you reach 3500 points, we will send you a great Expat9 Tshirt!
Our staff will monitor the site 24 hours a day, but still, we need your help: if you see incorrect content ( wrong information) or offensive content ( adult themes, bad language, hate speech etc...), please FLAG IT.
When 3 different members flag the same post, it will be hidden until we review it. If the post does not comply to our Terms of Use, we will remove it from the website and warn the author.
Remember that this is your community! Each and every member of Expat9 makes the site what it is, so don't be afraid to dig in and get involved!
Both have the same functions: text, photos, slideshows, videos etc...
But Blogs are for People to talk about their daily life, while Biz Blogs are for businesses.
A post is like a simple webpage: it has a title and some content ( text, images, videos etc...)
A comment is a small message that appears at the end of the post. Members use comments to give their opinion about the post.
- Members: 20 MB
- A to Z Sponsors: 30 MB
- Biz Blog Sponsors: 50 MB
- Publishers: 50 MB
When this is full, you may have to delete old posts in order to post new ones. You may also apply for more! To save your space, don't forget to resize your pictures before uploading them :)

You'd better use the standard .jpg
Videos:
So far, only .mov .avi .mpg .3gp are allowed.
However, if your video is in another format, you can download the following video converter which is free of charge:

More tips
When uploading an image or a video, you'd better include your name ( or initials) and the date in the file name. For example:

- Every member can upload photos.
- Uploading a photo is easy. Wherever you see the button "submit photo" or "upload photo", a browsing window will open up for you to choose the photo from your computer.
- Of course, your photos must comply with our Terms of Use.
Save your Space!
When you take a picture with your digital camera, the resolution is usually very high. That's because you need a high resolution to print good quality pictures on paper.
Online Photos do not need such a high resolution. If you keep the high resolution, the photo may be ten times bigger than your computer screen!!
So, it would be good if you could resize your pictures before posting them online ( or even sending then by email).
Many software can help you doing this. We recommend Fireworks :)
- Only VIP members, Biz Blog Sponsors and A to Z Sponsors can create slideshows.
- 10 photos per slideshow maximum.
- Upload one by one the photos you wish to have on your slideshow.
- After all the photos are uploaded, you may change the description text of each photo to the caption of your choice.
- Then, submit the page :)
- Of course, your slideshow must comply with our Terms of Use.
Save your storage space
Don't forget to resize your pictures before uploading them :)
- Only VIP members, Biz Blog Sponsors and A to Z Sponsors can upload a video.
- 5MB per video maximum (about 30 seconds).
- Your video will be reviewed before being published, so don't worry if you video doesn't appear straight away.
- In your Blog or in your A to Z, click "on upload a video", then submit the page... yes, it is that simple :)
- Of course, your video must comply with our Terms of Use.
Long long videos
If wish to post longer videos, then please contact us.
- A blog is an online personal diary. So please, no advertisements here. Thanks.
- You may post as many blogs as you like, but for each blog entry, please choose between a video or a slideshow.
- Please, do not post blogs that would offend some people or that would not comply with the laws of PRC.
- You have 20MB storage space... when this is full, you may have to delete old blogs in order to post new ones. You may also apply for more!
- Of course, your blog must comply with our Terms of Use.
- You may post as many blogs as you like, but for each blog entry, please choose between a video or a slideshow.
- You have 50MB storage space... when this is full, you may have to delete old blogs in order to post new ones. You may also apply for more!
- Of course, your biz blog must comply with our Terms of Use.
A to Z free review
- Every member can post free A to Z reviews, to promote their own business or to recommend one.
- Once published, you will not be able to edit your review, so you'd better click on "preview" before submitting it, so you can see what the review looks like.
- Your review will be monitored before being published.
- We reserve the rights to modify your review and whether to publish or not.
- Of course, your review must comply with our Terms of Use.
A to Z sponsored review
- Sponsored reviews appear above free ones.
- Editing function is enabled, so you can change the content of your ad as often as you like.
- You have the possibility to include a slideshow or a short video in your review.

- Every member can post ads, it is free of charge!
- However, you are only allowed to have 3 ads online, in different categories. If you wish to post more, you need to contact us first.
- Once published, you cannot edit your ad: make sure you click on preview before submitting it, so you can see what it looks like.
- Your ad will be removed after 30 days.
- Real Estate Agencies cannot post rental offers.
- Shops, factories cannot post seller's ads.
- Of course, your ad must comply with our Terms of Use.
- Every member can post events, it is free of charge!
- However, you are only allowed to post one event per week. If you wish to post more, you need to contact us first.
- For regular events (every Wednesday for example), you don't need to rewrite your event every week: you may click on edit and simply change the date of your event.
- You can add a flyer / poster to your event... but be careful: what looks good on a big paper format may not be readable on the net!
- Of course, your event must comply with our Terms of Use.
Our staff have the right to ban you straight away if they believe your behavior doesn't comply with our Terms of Use.
Other member may have flagged your posts on several occasions. When our staff decides to remove the post that has been flagged, you get a warning. After 3 warnings, you are banned.
