Beware of thives in Gongbei
Tags:
I was just robbed in Gongbei a few days ago in the shopping street near the border to Macau. It all happened in less than a split second. I was finishing up some shopping and was just about the climb in a taxi. Someone from behind opened my shoulder bag and took out my wallet. I lost several hundred RMB but much worse some credit cards which I had to cancel immediately when returning home. I really took me for a loop and I was quite discouraged for some time. So please be careful when visiting this part of town. Some people told me that there are many people coming from Xingjiang who are experts at this profession. So BEWARE!!
After this incident I wrote these few lines of advice. I hope I can follow them better next time. I learned the hard way!
Take Control
Take control of your destiny.
Believe in yourself.
Ignore those who try to discourage you.
Avoid negative sources.
Stay away from people that drag you down.
Avoid places that put your safety in jeopardy.
Fight against your negative habits.
Don't give up and don't give in.
Take Control

Sorry to hear about your bad
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Unfortunately this can happen to anyone , anywhere at anytime. Thieves never seem to rest and are always a "step ahead " of us. They are always developing new plans and schemes to outfox good people like yourself and the law. And somtimes we must learn the hard way. Perhaps keep your wallet in one of your front pockets of your trousers when going to these places. Just a suggestion. :)). By the way, I like your "words of advice". Very good! Good luck to you.
Thanks for your comments and
Thanks for your comments and good advice.
Sorry to hear about your
Sorry to hear about your horrible experience and albeit a bit delayed for this comment, I sympathize with you. I think more than what was lost, it is having to go through the experience that leaves quite a mark that usually takes a bit of time to get over with. coming up with a few lines for you to live by is a positive sign of your headstrong attitude to move on and sharing it with us is highly appreciated, to say the least.
I've almost been a victim once and have witnessed 2 kids attempting to pick in a bag of a woman busy talking on her phone. The problem is I didnt easily recognize the situation as they were kids. Initially, I thought they were merely playing a prank on their "mom". Not until they darted accross the street did I realize they were thieves. I consoled myself with the thought that they didnt succeed in taking anything. I was furious and wanted to do something but I then realized there surely would be eyes watching and protecting these kids.
Im so sorry to hear that,
Im so sorry to hear that, yes, as Ronnie said, thieves never seem to rest, I lost a wallet and a mobile phone in Wuhan city, that was all did by thieves, and several month ago, when I was in Yangshuo, a thief followed me, he was trying to pick up my wallet from my backpack while I was talking with my friend, I suddenly realized someone, then turned on my heel, shouted to him, he ran away.. lol
Thank god Im safe now, I think.
lol.. take control on your world!
I had such experience last
I had such experience last year. when i just graduated from the university, i rented a room in Gongbei. At the day i moved from my dormitory to the rented department, my laptop was stolen at the night during i went to the supermarket. More worse was that was happend in my rented department!!
I called for the policeman but it was in vain. They told me such things happended too much times and the best way to do was take care all of things by yourself.
I had nothing to say. and the next 5th days i moved to a new department nearby my university.
So i think in one aspect, we realyy should be alert when we go out, esp. in the places that crowed; another aspect is that the goverment really should take some action on such things, to protect people's security
hi zoe,thanks for sharing yr
