I loved this coffee shop when I was living in WanZaiSha. The waiters are attentive and the atmosphere is quite peaceful. They also have reasonably priced western (chinese style) food. Don't go here if you're in a hurry!
We had enjoyed this place several times in the past but last visit, in June, was uncomfortable. We decided to leave before ordering because the smoke from cigarettes was too thick. Don't think we will go back.
My friend and I went to Jenny's Cafe for coffee today and were busy talking when one of the waiters came up to us and told us to be quiet! He spoke in Chinese and thought we did not understand what he was saying and pointed to 'the rules' on the table menu. To his embarrassment there was no rule about talking quietly - just no card games, no pets, no listening to music on MP3 players etc., and no consuming food not purchased at Jenny's. My friend and I could not believe that we were told off for talking loudly in China! We quickly finished off our coffees and although we were both starving decided against eating at Jenny's and went off for hamburgers at Ryan's Bar instead. So Jenny's loss was Ryan's gain! :D
Actually when you enter our shop, there is already a sign in Chinese" Please keep silent and do not speak too loud." Why we do this? It is because we want to keep a silent place for those who want to enjoy their coffee or meals at our cafe. It is a shame that we haven't translated it into English. But we will try our best to do it. We hope that we can create a harmonious place for our customers.
It is a pity that you did not translate your sign, especially since your establishment tries very hard to attract foreigners. It would have spared your waiter and your customers a great deal of embarrassment. My friend and I were made to feel like a pair of naughty schoolgirls in a library!
