Skilled workers rewarded

HIGHLY skilled personnel will be favoured in recruitment, obtaining residence permits and having their families move into the city under the recently approved Outstanding Highly Skilled Selection & Reward Regulations -- the first time the city has enacted a policy in favour of skilled employees.
No more than 20 highly skilled employees will be awarded first prizes of 50,000 yuan ($7,143), second prizes of 30,000 yuan ($4,286), and third prizes of 10,000 yuan ($1,429), every two years. Winners will be granted “Zhuhai Working Model” status and those without registered permanent Zhuhai residence will be favoured in formalities of transfer or official recruitment, having families move to the city and obtaining the Guangdong Provincial Residence Permit for Non-Zhuhai Staff.
Some 273,000 qualified people with technical skills were urgently needed in the city at the end of 2007, and the number will be nearly 80,000 -- of which 40,000 are senior mechanics, technicians, and senior technicians -- by 2010, the Labour & Social Security Bureau says.
Efforts will be made to attract senior mechanics, technicians and senior technicians, men at or below age 45 and women 40. The age can be extended to 50 for men and 45 for women in case of demand. Their spouses and children below age 16 can obtain permanent residence permits.
