THE central government has appropriated a staggering 4 trillion yuan ($586 billion) stimulus package for the next two years to reactivate domestic demand. As an immediate measure, it has allocated an additional 100 billion yuan （$14.64 billion） for this year.
About 10 billion yuan ($1.46 billion) of this year’s appropriation will be used mainly in construction of the national-level highway network and rural roads, with a half-to-half investment ratio, and the bulk of the money will flow to the country's western and underdeveloped regions, according to Li Xinghua, director of the Planning Department of the Ministry of Transport.
The measures were taken to minimize the impact of the international financial tsunami upon China and to address the slowdown of the country's economic growth,
