Doumen lands Pierre Cardin furniture

WORLD-famous French fashion designer Pierre Cardin, 86, predicted that his furniture would go global from Doumen after he announced authorizing Zhuhai Artisan Furniture Co Ltd to be the manufacture and sole marketing agent in China last Monday.
Artisan Furniture in Doumen District has manufactured Pierre Cardin brand OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) products since 2002. The yearlong cooperation has resulted in this latest step, the first of its kind for Pierre Cardin Group Ltd in China.
As one of the several leading furniture manufacturers in China, Artisan Furniture differentiates itself in innovation and design, Pierre Cardin noted.
Kang Mingliang of the Doumen furniture plant said that a 100,000sqm manufacturing facility, 20,000sqm of which is in operation, for furniture R&D and production will be built. Rather than OEM production this time, the two parties will design new furniture and bring French-style furniture to Chinese families, he explained.
The first Pierre Cardin furniture store, to cover 3,000 to 4,000sqm somewhere in Zhuhai is expected to open by the New Year, Artisan Vice General Manager Yao Qingwen noted. First phase of an 8,000sqm furniture centre will be completed in two years and the centre will house 16 categories of high-end furniture for three phases by 2015, he said.
Furniture co-designed by Pierre Cardin and Artisan Furniture will make its debut at the 23rd Shenzhen International Furniture Exhibition from tomorrow through Friday, the first also in Asia,
